Holiday traditions don’t have to be sugary, some can be nourishing and festive! Continue reading for 5 holiday foods that are good for your teeth so you can make some new healthy traditions!

1. Popcorn

Homemade popcorn is a great snack anytime but it also tops our list of holiday foods that are good for your teeth. We love it because you can dress it up with nearly endless flavor combos. From pumpkin spice to simple sea salt to dark chocolate drizzles, there’s something for everyone to love!

2. Dairy

Dairy is good for your teeth because it contains lots of calcium and vitamins that support strong teeth and bones. For a holiday treat with nourishing dairy, try a cheese board, a refreshing Caprese appetizer, or simply add a dash of cream to your tea!

3. Fruit and Veggies

During the cold winter season, farm-fresh fruit and veggies might not be as readily available as they were in the summer, but fruit and veggies are still a great way to support your immune system with vitamin C, antioxidants, and other nutrients. So make sure to pile your plate high with veggies at holiday gatherings and grab a fresh apple or pear for a snack when you get the chance!

4. Chocolate

Many people don’t think of chocolate as a healthy food, but we rank it among holiday foods that are good for your teeth for a few reasons. Cocoa has special naturally-occurring compounds that can help to harden your enamel and make it more resistant to decay. Chocolate also melts in your mouth, so it’s less likely than other sweet treats to leave behind a sticky residue on your teeth. Just be careful to avoid milk chocolate and try to stick with darker varieties of chocolate for lower sugar content.

5. Tea

Few things feel cozier than snuggling up with a hot cup of tea on a cold winter morning. Some teas, like black tea, naturally contain fluoride which helps to strengthen your teeth against cavities. If your city adds fluoride to your water supply and you brew your tea with tap water, you can benefit from double the dose of fluoride in your cup of morning tea!
